Why Kids should Run the world.

Why Kids Should Run This World
I have just figured how to solve most of the world's problems. Let kids be in charge of it. Think about it.

Kids usually have wild imagination and great ideas. They are not restrained by limitations created by adults.
Kids speak their mind. They haven't learned the concept of talking behind ones back.
Kids love animals and the environment.
Kids love unconditionally, and they love everybody.
Kids are blind to race, religion and other petty differences we adults make such a big deal about.
Kids compete with each other for fun. End of the day, they are all friends.
Kids make friends easily.
Most importantly, kids are not corrupted by greed for power and money, unlike most of us adults.

The above was inspired by the video below.

May Day Rallies

As to the introduction I would like to diversify topics and focus on a global phenomenon,May Day and its celebrations.
May Day or  Labour Day or International Workers Day(as it is officially termed) is about celebrating achievements of workers.
May Day Rallies to me were a vague call back to communist agenda's, until I found out that  actually started in America, and has more to do with the labor movement than communism. I’d greeted it with appreciation; because like every Sri Lankan I appreciate the occasional(sarcasm) holiday, them being so hard to come by .
May Day in Colombo is a crazy affair. Busloads of people are brought in from all over the country, thousands of people gather in the city, they eat, they drink and they pay for nothing. Although no official figure is known, if the government’s claim that nearly 2 million people were ferried(or bused)  into the city this May is to be believed, then the cost for the whole day could have been close to a billion rupees. What is also unknown is who actually footed the bill. Mainstream media was silent on this particular nosy question.
But May Day today is less about the workers than the politicians that represent them. The money, in a rare example for our country, is flowing from the top to the bottom. It is the politicians that are bringing the workers into town. It is the politicians that are spending money, apparently motivating workers to fight for their own rights. The labor movement has been sabotaged by politics; its integrity sold for a free trip into the city, a lunch packet and a quarter bottle of liquor.

Such is life in the paradise Isle.

Racism In Sri lanka

There is a palpable spike of racism in Sri Lanka..llast  month marked the 30th anniversary of Black July, I’m not 30 yet, and I wasn't born during that time, though like most youth I grew up with 20+ years of war and destruction. The anti-Tamil riots during the month of July in 1983 should never be forgotten.

As kids I remember my parents telling us about how they saw innocent Tamils stopped from cars and taken out or how houses were set on fire. My parents who went for their daily jobs in Colombo couldn't do anything but to watch in despair as angry mobs ransacked shops and harassed innocent people.  These killing and violence made a permanent scar in the Sri Lankan society, and any Sri Lankan would clearly know the implications it had on the war and the divide it brought forth.

Any young adult of my age in their 20s or early 30s who grew up in the 90s should clearly know the implications of racial extremism and what destruction a communal riot would bring to this small country. Partly for political mileage or otherwise state media used to shower the public with news and articles about Black July every year for its anniversary. So any kid growing up those days knew of the harm such a riot could bring to a country.

Therefore it is important to see the current events of "Muslim Phobia" unfold in the above context. It is said that we as a nation, collectively have an short term memory. Now is not the time.

Initiation

While the purpose of this blog is purely academic I would like to bring on some facts about life and a discussion about current events which are prevalent in the world today.I would hope to follow through in this blog(rather than let it fall to the wayside, much like most of the projects I start)

I would like to discuss certain issues without confining myself towards a particular genre or theme and whilst I do so I would also like to point out that these views are my own and I do not wish to offend any sensibilities of others.

All that being said.

Let us begin.
